Constructed Places of Religious/Mythical Nature

I think it would be really impressive and effective if we create a monument similar to those created in our archaic days. People aren't used to seeing this anymore. It is replaced with standardized buildings which serve only their purpose of containing things. By constructing something for the mere purpose of being, we may be able to say something to people, by saying their purpose is just TO BE.

Improving Public Space at the Mesa Apartments

Experimental Seating

A shared place to sit is an excellent social architecture that is sorely needed at UCSD. How might you design benches to maximize use? Students are strongly encouraged to do projects that engage public seating. Mobile Benches, (iPod pluginable) Music Benches or the iBench or iSit?, Data Recording Benches, Benches in the forest.

Experimental Seating2: Large Quilt - Placing a large quilt that covers the majority of a lawn area will encourage sitting on the grass because the wetness of the grass is no longer a problem.  Interesting images on the quilt can be conversation starters for strangers to interact with each other.  This highly portable and affordable seating can be set up everywhere on campus.

Broadcast Your Podcast

These instructions show how to make a simple but powerful FM transmitter for your iPod. Using $1 FM radios and/or boomboxes, how might you make a portable speaker system, or synchronized listening party or parade?

Bulletin Boards

How does the design of bulletin boards affect public engagement?

SMS bulletin board that anyone could comment on annonymously - either physically or remotely.

Notes

Hide simple notes in unexpected places (back of lecture chairs, on trees, atm slots, bathroom mirrors, etc.). These can be notes of mysterious theoretical things or notes of encouragement, really anything to give people something to "discover" themselves and feel special about it.

Chalk it up

Massive chalking party in the warren mall with chalk set out for others to add to or change the base artwork.
