Power naps are essential to a student's mental and physical performance. Many students are on campus the whole day and night sometimes and they need a place to rest their body. Although there are cafes, grassy lawn areas, and empty rooms for people to sit and chill, there really isn't a comfortable place to lay down and take a nap. The only exception I've seen is the New Old Student Center (NOSC) where the study lounge has long padded benches all along the walls. You can sit on them, sit by it so to rest your feet on them, or just lie down for a shut eye. There are no obstructive arm-rests and it is padded so it is comfortable at least. Many people, including me, have used these benches for the aforementioned purposes.
Before the NOSC existed, I would be studying in one of the rooms at CLICS and would have to put several padded chairs together in order to sleep. That was not very comfortable. Also, I always felt bad that other students could not use the room becaue I occupied the whole room, not for studying but for sleeping. The nice thing about the NOSC is that it is a big open space to study and sleep when you are tired of studying. A homey sensation is created by the fireplace, cushiony chairs, and carpeted floors. There are movable furnitures for flexible organization of personal/group areas. Large windows let in plenty of sunlight which creates a toasty atmosphere for relaxing in. No one bothers you while you sleep and the place has just enough of a buzz from people chatting that it is like a lullaby.
I am not proposing to create a place on campus solely for sleeping because that will be like a youth hostel. But, there should be more places like NOSC that have simple padded benches for people to lay down. Geisel and Clics can easily implement that. People will not have to set up three chairs side by side for a nap which will free up the chairs for others. Since we all know that people do not like being on the grass because it is wet, padded benches can be set up outdoors as well for people to sleep in the sun. With more places on campus to rest the body, the mind, and the soul, everyone's spirits will be lifted and their well-being will be improved. No more zombies!
