The Club House
How We Did It
The Method
The original design went through several drafts without consideration for price or practicality. The early conceptualization was focused mostly on features that people might find enticing, like fur and flowers. The project was approved in this initial state, as two houses, both very complicated in artistic concept and actual implementation. As the project progressed, however, practicality set in. The project was reduced to one house instead of two, and retained the core intent of providing a familiar form on which people could express themselves.
The Design
The initial grandiose design was to have one house act as tactile inspiration, eliciting internal responses that would translate into expressions on the art house. As the project developed, this idea of attracting attention and responses transformed into an outdoor furniture set in bold designs of red, white, and black that is both inviting and slightly provocative. The exterior of the house is equipped with markers and finger paints for creative use. The interior is painted entirely black, and contains seating, mirrors, and contrasting brightly colored post-it notes.
The interior is black and mirrored to provide an environment for personal refection. While outside, the house is bright feels a part of the environment, the interior should provide a private space that is removed from the outside world.
