CONSTRUCTION OF THE LABYRINTH
A Production By: Marko Manriquez, Shawn Yourd, & Marjory Loh
Once approved, location was deliberated. There were two places worth for debate within the Park. The first resided further from the center of campus near RIMAC gym. The second was situated in the center of campus, a high traffic area. Each area had its pro's and con's. For the purposes of attracting a larger amount of foot traffic, the latter of the two was chosen as an adequate location for assembage.
..::THE WALLS::..
Materials were chosen:
+4mil painters plastic
+1"x2"x8' wood steaks
+Duct tape (clear, white, classic, whatever we could get our hands on)
+9/16" staples
+twine in conjunction with knot skills
+Scissors
+Stool and or ladder
Process:
1) Lay down floor tarp
+left over plastic
+protects new wall from dirt and possible tearing from ground debris
2) Roll out approximate length of segment to be covered
+this could be any lenth ranging from 8' to upwards of 20'
3) Cut while rolled. This is more efficient.
+make sure to cut at least 2' of extra
4) unfold to hight of 7.5'
+this is 3/4th the total hight of the plastic
5) wrap end around 1"x2"x8' steak
+leave the extra 6" out the bottom for steaking into the ground
6) with staple gun and 9/16" staples, secure plastic to steak
+ staple at least 3 times top and bottom
+staple every 6"-12" down 8' length.
7) lean steak to tree
8) Using a stool or ladder, puncture a hole 2" from the top
9) tie to tree using twine
+two methods:
--a. tie at three points
--b. the "lacing" tecnique
10) knots:
+half hitch, square knot, tautline hitch...
11) hold length up to desired end destination tree
12) adjust length, cutting if necessary.
13) repeat step 5-9.
14) "Tayloring"
+adjust tension by pulling top or bottom of plastic back onto the steaks
+restaple where neccessary
